It's not really known when the feather boa first showed up in fashion history. We do know however that the Flappers of the Twenties made the feather boa famous. They brought a kind of style and sophistication to fashion that became one of our most versatile cultural icons. The boa snake is where the feather boa gets its name. This makes a lot of sense because it is basically a long snake of feathers that you wear around your neck.
